Siemens Goes To The Races
NASCAR sponsorship obviously makes sense ? dollars and cents ? to Siemens,
which announced it is adding a Busch Grand National car to its existing Winston
Cup sponsorship of Bill Davis racing.
Citing a desire to continue its successful program in Winston Cup and to expand
its overall nationwide branding campaign, Siemens will continue as the major
associate sponsor with Bill Davis Racing's #23 Hills Brothers Dodge, as well
as take on the role of primary sponsor for 17 races with up-and-coming Busch
Series star Scott Wimmer.
With Hut Stricklin in Winston Cup and Wimmer in Busch, Siemens continues its
strong relationship with one of the most durable multi-team operations in stock
car racing's premiere division. The veteran Stricklin hopes to continue the
promise he showed last year by placing 11th in the 2001 season finale at Altanta
Motor Speedway. Wimmer also has shown race-winning potential by finishing 11th
in driver's points as a rookie during the 2001 NASCAR Busch Series campaign.
"This is a huge boost to our team, our program, and our commit ment to win
week-in and week-out," said Davis. "We have a fantastic rela- tionship with
Siemens and their customers. To have them step up and want to partner with Bill
Davis Racing as the next step in their sponsorship development is something
special."
John Dimmerling, director of Corporate Marketing/Communications for Alpharetta-based
Siemens Energy & Automation, said a bigger role with Bill Davis and NASCAR supports
Siemens' marketing strategies. "We value our relationship with Bill Davis, and
expanding our efforts with the team is the next logical step for what has been
a very successful program. NASCAR has been a great place for us to showcase
our products and services, build relations with our customers and discover new
business opportunities."
With products ranging from light bulbs and circuit breakers to building automation
and telecommunications systems, Siemens is a potential one-stop supplier for
the development of new racetracks and related NASCAR projects.
Siemens and Bill Davis think they have found a winner in Wimmer, a Wausau,
Wis., native who finished second last season in Busch Series Rookie-of-the-year
honors. Wimmer says Siemens enthusiasm will be welcome. "After last year, our
team really believed we had put together the necessary building blocks required
to get into Victory Lane for 2002. With Siemens now on board, our guys are going
to be that much more motivated to perform at the highest level. We have a lot
of guys back from 2001, and it now looks as though we're going to have one of
the strongest teams on the Busch circuit this season."
The #23 Hills Brothers Dodge will carry the Siemens brand on the deck-lid
and C-Post for all 36 races in 2002. Siemens will be primary sponsor on Wimmer's
#23 Siemens Busch Series Pontiac for a select 17 races, including Daytona, Las
Vegas, Texas, California, New Hampshire, Charlotte, Dover, Kentucky, Milwaukee,
Chicago, Michigan, Bristol, Kansas, Atlanta, Phoenix, and Homestead. As for
the remaining races, Bill Davis Racing is looking for another co-primary to
fill this role.
