Riddiford, A Trusted Name In Roofing Since 1901
In November, 2001, at the Hyatt Regency O'Hare, G.E. Riddiford Roofing Company
celebrated 100 years of the Riddiford family providing quality value and service
in the roofing industry to the Chicagoland area. In 1901, Grandfather Louis
Riddiford joined the Murdoch Roofing Company of Chicago at its location on 30
N. LaSalle Street. He moved the company to West Lake Street during the depression.
In the 1940's, Louis Riddiford turned the Murdoch Company over to his three
sons, Jack, Louis Jr., and George Sr. In 1964, George E. Riddiford Sr. founded
the G.E. Riddiford Company based in Elk Grove Village. Following college and
the Marine Corps, the current President and CEO, George E. Riddiford, Jr. took
over the company after the death of his father.
Throughout the years, the G.E. Riddiford Company has held as its strong foundation
the value of the family. This is exemplified in the participation of George's
mother, Margretta, who worked as the company's office manager for over 20 years
and his wife Patricia who continues to act as the Corporate Secretary. George
and Pat's two sons, Joseph and Christopher joined the company while still in
high school, learning the business, working on the rooftops and in the office.
After college, Joe joined the company fulltime in 1992 and Chris in 1994, making
it four generations of Riddifords in roofing. Both sons continue to work hard
upholding the family's tradition of excellence and value.
This dedication to family was recently recognized when the Riddiford Company
received a Massachusetts Mutual Family Business of the Year Award at the University
of Chicago Family Business Council's dinner Cruise. The competition was a national
event that recognized companies whose excellence in their industry was attributable
to their strong commitment to family.
Riddiford Roofing Company is a proud member of NRCA, CRCA, MRCA, Greater O'Hare
Association, Fox Valley General Contractors Association, IREM, UIC Family Business
Council and Union Local 11.
