Presidents Message For January, 2001
The Chief Engineers Association of Chicagoland will be holding its annual dinner
dance at the McCormick Place Hyatt on Saturday, January 27, 2001. This is an
event that is well received by all of our membership, which is more than evident
by this event's rapid growth over the last few years. Please plan on bringing
your spouse or "significant other" to a truly wonderful event. Tickets are available
from any board member. If you have any questions, please contact co-Chairpersons
Vice Presidents Dave Arvans and Matthew McManus. A special rate is available
for a limited block of rooms if you would like to stay overnight, so call early
and plan on spending the evening. We look forward to seeing you.
It was with great sadness that we received the news on the passing away of
John "Tim" Phelan, the President and Business Manager of The International Union
of Operating Engineers Local 399. Mr. Phelan was a prominent champion for the
rights of labor and the working man. Mr. Phelan was the CEAC's "Man of the Year"
recipient for 1996. His dynamic leadership, steadfast dedication, unwavering
devotion to excellence and continued support to this organization will be sorely
missed.
It is also with great sadness that we note the passing of CEAC Board member
John Fanning's mother. John's contributions of his knowledge and skill to the
CEAC are incredible. Unfortunately they are far too numerous and important to
do proper justice to in the space allowed in this column. This organization
is enriched by his dedication and presence.
On another sad note, longtime CEAC member John Hickey recently lost his long
battle with cancer. John was always a pleasure to be around, and he always had
a kind word and a handshake for everyone. I know all of us will miss John's
presence at our meetings.
Our thoughts and prayers are with the families of all three of these gentlemen.
The CEAC owes is success to the continued relationships between our Active
and Associate Members. The magazine you now hold in your hands is made possible
through our Associate Memberships advertising dollars. Their continued dedication
is what has made the success of this organization possible. I ask that you please
support them in return. When you are in need of goods or services, look at the
back page of this publication where this issue's advertisers are listed. Remember,
it is through our mutual support that we grow stronger.
Your thoughts and comments are important to me and I look forward to hearing
from our membership. If you wish to contact me, my preferred method is via my
email address at Dghwwii@aol.com. If this is not convenient for you, please
forward all communications through the CEAC office.
Sincerely yours,
Daniel Hickey President, CEAC
