President's Message, April 2009
Greetings!
Thank you to our co-sponsors and everyone who attended the March General
Meeting at the Irish American Heritage Center. Attendance was outstanding as
was the
corned beef dinner. I know everyone looks forward to this meeting and it showed
again this year.
This month’s general meeting is being held at the BeauJolie in Schiller
Park on April 15th. I hope to see everyone there.
We have come to that part of the season whereby the temperatures are changing
what seems like every five minutes. We must continuously make changes in our
building HVAC systems to accommodate the tenants and still maintain energy
efficiency. This is something easier said than done. Being well-educated in
the operation
of your systems is a key factor in how you operate during the change of seasons.
Given the state of the economy we are all looking for and trying different
ways to improve our operating budget cost. It is for this reason, and more,
that the
Chief Engineers Association continues to focus on educating our members on
the ways and means to better operate your buildings. One of the most readily
available
ways is with our Associate Members. The Associate Members are those with the
expertise in the field, whether it be boilers, cooling towers, HVAC, filters,
building automation systems, lighting, cleaning products, pumps, motors and
so many more. Speak to our Associate Members and recommend them to your building
owners or owner’s representatives as well as building management. You
will find a great many benefits and savings in using them whenever possible.
I also strongly encourage all of us to educate ourselves by signing up and
taking the courses that are offered by so many learning facilities. Look to
supply houses,
vendors, manufacturers, Union Local 399, trade schools, colleges and seminars
to become better informed and prepared to do the work.
Very much a topic of today’s buildings is GREEN. We hear this all the
time. Green building is something that all of us should not take lightly. My
interpretation
is simply this: What we do today will be saving, returning and preserving our
natural resources for future generations. We can do our part by building new
structures smarter, renovating existing buildings smarter, and maintaining
our facilities smarter.
As I am sure everyone has heard, the United States of America has started
the draw down and removal of our forces who are fighting overseas to protect
this
country. This is something very good to hear and see. We need to thank all
those past and present who have served to protect and defend this country
whether it
has been here or abroad. Over the course of time I ask that all of us keep
in our thoughts and prayers our armed forces.
Thank you and have a great month.
