President's Message For November, 2000
The Chief Engineers Association of Chicagoland will conduct its Annual Dinner
Dance in January, 2001. This is our special social event of the year and is
well enjoyed by all that attend. It is an opportunity for us to bring our spouses
out and show them off. once again it will be held at the McCormick Place Hyatt.
Special room rates have been arranged for our membership and their guests, so
please plan to make your reservations early. Our Dinner Dance committee chairpersons
for this year are Vice President Dave Arvans and Vice President Matthew McManus.
Please contact them for more information, or any board member for tickets. Please
plan on attending this fine event.
Remember to log on to our dynamic new web site at www.chiefengineer.org.
This site is packed full of information and features designed for a Chief Engineer
to assist with their duties. I hope everyone is currently taking advantage of
this incredible tool that is being offered to you. New features are being added
almost daily. These are tools for you, the Chief Engineer, to use. The overwhelming
effort that members of this organization have put into making this one of the
premier web sites in the country should not be wasted. This web site was built
at the repeated requests of our membership. Take advantage of it, please.
One of the features on our web site is education. An assortment of various
classes and seminars that are available are listed, making it easier for you
to attend the courses that you may desire. It is important that we continue
to constantly educate ourselves, the unceasing changes in our field demand that
we continue to be as up to date in the latest regulatory and environmental issues
as is possible. Many of our Associate Members offer training courses on subjects
ranging from pump seal repairs to water treatment. Please take this opportunity
that is given to you and use these resources. No one can force you to continue
your education, that is a choice that you must make for yourself. We at the
CEAC will continue to post the courses we find that are available to you. Please
take advantage of this information.
Membership is the life blood of any organization, including the CEAC. Without
a fresh influx of new members, organizations eventually become stale and perish.
It is the continued responsibility of all of our members to be on a constant
vigil for potential candidates for membership. We currently boast our highest
membership ever in the Chief Engineers, and I am very proud of this. But it
is our duty to continually promote growth and success in what I believe is the
premier organization in the Chicagoland area. If you know of anyone who is qualified
to be a member, bring them to the next Educational Meeting as your guest. Let
us continue to work together to make this organization grow and prosper further.
As always, I ask that you realize the publication you now hold in your hand
is made possible through the continued support and advertising dollars of our
Associate Members. I would ask that you support them in return, when you need
goods or services, turn to the back page of this magazine where all of this
issues advertisers are listed and call them. It is through the mutual support
and loyalty between our Active and Associate members that this organization
has acieved its current success.
With the upcoming holiday season beginning to get into swing, I would like
to take this opportunity to extend a very peaceful and Happy Thanksgiving from
all the Board Members of The Chief Engineers Association to all the members
and their families. (Remember, don't eat too much turkey!)
Your thoughts, suggestions and comments are important to me, and I do look
forward to hearing from you, the membership. If you wish to contact me, my preferred
method is via my email address: Dghwwii@aol.com. If this is not convenient for
you, then please send your communications through the CEAC office. I do respond
to all communications sent to me.
Sincerely yours,
Daniel Hickey President, CEAC
