Calmac CEO Named Energy Engineer Of The Year

Mark MacCracken, President and Chief Executive Officer of Calmac Manufacturing Corporation, has been named “Energy Engineer of the Year” by the New York Chapter of the Association of Energy Engineers (AEE). MacCracken received the award in recognition of his efforts to promote energy efficiency through the use of Ice Storage technology.

“ We are extremely pleased to honor Mark for his tireless work and outstanding achievements in the area of energy efficiency,” noted Fredric Goldner, NY-AEE Awards Chair, who presented MacCracken with the award at a ceremony held at Manhattan’s Tavern on the Green. “His work, particularly in the area of thermal storage, embodies the essence of our organization’s mission and objectives.”

The New York Chapter AEE Energy Engineer of the Year award is presented annually to a member of the Chapter who demonstrates outstanding accomplishments in promoting the practices, principles and procedures of energy engineering along with a conviction and commitment to foster sound energy policies that lessen our dependence on foreign oil, reduce greenhouse gas emissions and lower the demand on the electrical grid.

In his over 30 years with Calmac, MacCracken has been involved in all aspects of the company including R&D, contracts, patents, manufacturing, marketing and finance. He was the Principal Investigator on research projects with Oak Ridge National Labs, NASA and Solar Energy Research Institute.

He has assisted in the design of hundreds of Calmac IceBank® Energy Storage systems around the world. He also designed the IceMat II portable skating rink product that is used locally for the Pond at Bryant Park Ice Rink each year.

MacCracken earned a BS degree in Mechanical Engineering and is a licensed Professional Engineer in the state of New Jersey. He holds three U.S. Patents and is a LEED® Accredited Professional. Along with his membership in AEE, MacCracken is on the National Board of Directors of the U.S. Green Building Council and ARI. He is also a Distinguished Lecturer for ASHRAE and a past Chairman of ASHRAE’s Thermal Storage Technical Committee.
