President's Message September 2008
It’s September and the Annual Golf Outing is here!
It is the Chief Engineers Association of Chicagoland annual golf outing,
and it should be a fun day for all. I have it on good authority that the outing
has been sold out and I congratulate the Golf Committee for the work they did
to
make this happen.
As president of this fine organization, I want to take this time to thank
Angelo Saccameno and Jimmy Cacciottolo for all the hard work and effort that
they
put into coordinating, scheduling, getting information out and accommodating
everyone’s
needs. My thanks, as well, go out to their committee members and the staff
at St. Andrews involved in this event.
Just to give you a brief chain of events on what goes into organizing this
event: The planning starts right after each year’s golf outing has been completed.
The committee chairman and co-chairman pick the site, negotiate for the site,
review the cost and determine if we can hold the price for the next year. Then
they create their budget for the next year’s event, submit their budget
for approval, pick the date, secure the event place, contact sponsors, sell foursomes,
plan the meal, get the prizes, have the tickets printed, arrive very early in
the morning to review and set up for the day, welcome and check everyone in,
deal with last minute items, and as if that isn’t enough, throughout
the day they continue to check, correct, and make sure that it is a fun-filled
day
for all.
Angelo has, for many years, handled this event and continues to do an outstanding
job. This year he will turn the task of chairman over to Jimmy Cacciottolo.
I ask everyone to thank Angelo for the outstanding work that he has done
to bring
the event to the level that it is, and I can assure you that Angelo will
stay every bit as involved with this as with the other committees that he is
on
as a board member of the Chief Engineers Association. Again, I thank Angelo
for
his dedication and hard work. It has not gone unnoticed.
I would be remiss this month not to touch on what happened to this nation
seven years ago. Not to sadden anyone, we all know this nation was shocked
and devastated
by the attack on 9-11-01. We, as a nation, were attacked on our own soil
for the second time in history by a foreign country. As a nation, we lost
a lot
of men and women in this attack and will never be able to forget, or should
we forget,
what happened. Since this time, we have grown stronger and better at the
site of where the Twin Towers once stood. Construction is underway to build
a new
and beautiful structure to once again make the area operational. More importantly,
at this area they have not forgotten those that lost their lives. A monument
is being constructed in memory of those who were lost and, although I have
not seen what it will look like upon completion, my understanding is that
it will
do justice to those heroes. So take a moment of silence on 9-11-08 to remember
what our nation, individuals, and those who were lost have given and endured.
As always I ask that when in the need for products or services you keep
our Associate members in mind. These associate members help to support
this organization
and
we need to help support them when we can. Kindly give them the opportunity
to quote/price out the things that you need.
In closing, please keep in your thoughts and prayers our armed forces.
It is because of their bravery and dedication to serve and protect
our country
that
we can live and have the freedom that we have.
Have a great month!
Sincerely,
Roland Steele
President, CEAC
