President's Message, February 2007
Greetings!
Last month the CEAC sponsored an important and informative meeting for our
members. Since the attacks of September 11, 2001, facility managers and operators
have
stepped forward and assumed the responsibility for making their facilities safer
and keeping their tenants alert and trained in evacuation and emergency procedures.
Our January meeting attempted to bring the experts to our membership to tell
us what steps our government has taken to protect our cities and support our
own efforts to put anti-terror programs in place. I want to thank all of the
members who attended this important meeting.
As a follow-up to this meeting, this month’s magazine will focus on the
nation’s security and how far we have come since 2001 to secure ourselves
from the threat of terrorists. These efforts on the part of CEAC underscore
our commitment in helping to keep Chief Engineers informed of the latest news,
technology,
and resources available that may assist in their efforts to keep their facilities
safe. We have been very fortunate that no major foreign terror attack has been
successful in our country since 9/11. But we cannot allow this tranquility
to make us complacent. There are terrorists throughout the world who do want
to
strike at us, and will seize upon any opportunity to attack. To prevent them
from being successful, we all must work to eliminate such opportunities. That
means that we must remain vigilant and prepared at all times. We can never
let down our guard, or show any vulnerability in our determination to protect
our
facilities and our tenants.
This month we will be meeting at the Hotel Sofitel, O’Hare in Rosemont,
IL, on February 21st, where our co-sponsor ITG Solutions will again help to
keep our membership up-to-date on the various security solutions available
for our
facilities. I hope you are all there for this very important educational meeting.
Next month, we once again gather to welcome in the spring with the time-honored
tradition of the St. Patrick’s Day meeting with plenty of corned beef and
pints of Guinness Stout at the Irish American Heritage Center in Chicago. I know
you won’t want to miss this annual gathering of fun and camaraderie.
As we near the end of winter, it is time to give thought to the wonderful
summer activities the CEAC hosts for its members. The annual picnic and golf
outing
are two events that can always use the help of volunteers who wish to assist
in putting these events together. If you would like to get involved with
one of these events, please contact Dennis Nolan, the Picnic Committee Chairman,
or Angelo Saccameno, the Golf Committee Chairman.
Sincerely,
Harold Hacker
President, CEAC
