Chief Engineers Picnic A Smashing Success!

Another complete Success! The 14th Annual Family Picnic for 2000 was again a banner event. Ron Steele and his committee arranged a beautiful event as always, complete with great food, fun, games and many events for the kids.

The catering people have always presented a delicious bill of fare for the crowd. Everything from Bar-B-Q'ed chicken to brats, ribs, rolls, salads and a variety of fresh fruit, all prepared and presented flawlessly.

The kids enjoyed pony rides, the inflatable moonwalk, egg toss contests, face painting, balloon sculptures and the best of the day - the candy tunnel. Everything was organized and guided by professionals, colorfully dressed clowns in various glittery attire.

Jimmy Perna has for so many years donated his time and expensive equipment for this event. As always he did a super job with announcements and music all day long. A new more central forest preserve was acquired this year, Brezina Woods, just south of 22nd Street on LaGrange Road. A pavillion and clean grounds was available with plenty of room to hold the events and set up large tents supplying cover for the prizes and the entry table. Ron ordered a bright sunny day that was pleasantly cool compared to last years record heat and humidity.

A big crowd played Bingo where plentiful prizes were available for the winners.

The day was complete when the lucky winner of the "Hog Heaven" raffle was selected. The Harley Davidson XHL Sportster valued at $10,000 was won by John Bell with ticket number 109. This has been a very popular event and will continue on each year as a free event for members of the association.

Remember "next year" will be here before you know it. Pin a reminder notice on your bulletin board to attend next years picnic. It's for all active and associate members and their immediate families - FREE of charge. A great day for the young at heart.

Prize winners were: John Bell, Harley Davidson; Pat Henehan, Camcorder; Joe Weber, DVD player; Karen Pawlinski, 27" TV w/stereo sound; Mike Sullivan, Baseball tickets; Joe Wysong, Boys bike; Jennifer Cronin, girls bike.

A happy pair of bike winners. Joe Wysong and Jennifer Cronin were able to calculate the correct amount of candies in the large jar. Whith their amazing mathematical observations they were awarded a shiny new mountain bike. Not a bad reward for a short days work. Congratulations Jennifer and Joe. Enjoy your new bike!

To view the entire gallery of photos taken, visit the past events section of this website. As always we try to get as many photos as possible. If you see yourself or child, please feel free to capture the photo from our gallery and bring it on to your desktop.

We hope to see everyone again next year!
