President's Message, April 2006
Greetings,
Well, it is official that we have survived another Chicago winter and have
entered into the spring, where new challenges arise in our facilities and increased
pedestrian
traffic entering and leaving our facilities make temperature regulation more
demanding.
Scheduled maintenance for our summer equipment has been, or soon will be,
completed as we start up our chillers and towers and plans for maintenance
of our summer
equipment will get underway once more. A reminder to everyone that if you
are in need of experts to assist you in any aspect of start-up or maintenance
programs,
check first with those contractors who advertise within the Chief Engineer
magazine. If you see their advertisement here, you know they are the best
in the business
I want to thank all of our co-sponsors for the great St. Patrick's Day
meeting we held last month. This meeting has become one of our best-attended
and
most enjoyable general meetings, and this year was no exception as we
crowded into
the Irish American Heritage Center and enjoyed Irish songs from The Three
Men in Kilts and dined on Harrington's corned beef. A great time was
had by all and,
thanks to our co-sponsors, a great spring tradition continues for the
CEAC.
I want to remind everyone that electric utility deregulation in Illinois
means no more bundled rates. This means that every Chief must become
familiar with
electric utility options for their facilities. You can now choose the
generation supplier for your facility. With rising energy costs, building
owners and
managers will be turning to you for advice and recommendations. They
will also be looking
to you for methods to conserve energy and lower peak demand within
your building. Attending the CEAC monthly meetings is a great way to find
out how to save
energy and to learn what your options are for electrical service. Make
sure you stay
at the top of your profession by taking advantage of our educational
services.
This month we host our Vendor Fair at the White Eagle Banquet facility
in Niles, Illinois. I want to thank Dan Carey, the Committee Chairman
for this
fair, for
the hard work he has put into making this a great event for our associate
and active members. A lot of work goes into the planning and coordination
of an event
like this and Dan and his fellow committee members deserve our thanks.
I am looking forward to seeing a record crowd at the fair where we
have the
opportunity to
meet vendors and learn of new technology and services available to
assist us in operation of our buildings. We also have the opportunity
to dine
on some of
the best Polish food served in the Chicago area.
As the summer nears, the CEAC gears up for our annual family picnic
and our annual golf outing. These two events are great fun and
the picnic
is a fabulous
family
event that I hope every member takes advantage of by bringing their
family to a day of food, fun and camaraderie.
Please remember that if you need assistance in your facility, check
first with the Quick Shopper card or the Chief Engineer magazine
for all your
building's needs. And remember to tell the vendor you choose
that you found them in
the
Chief.
Sincerely,
Harold Hacker
President, CEAC
