President's Message February, 2005

President's Message February, 2005

I wonder if you are finding it hard to believe that it is already February and we are closing in on a new spring. I hope that you have all taken steps to perform your annual heavy maintenance on your air-conditioning equipment because before you know it, we will be moving once again into the cooling season in our buildings. If you haven’t gotten around to this yet, or you need some help, make sure to contact one of our associate members for the help you need. The contractors and equipment suppliers who are with our organization are the best of the best and will be certain to keep your building equipment in peak operating condition.

Every February, the CEAC board of directors attends an annual all-day retreat which takes a hard look at what has transpired during the previous year and makes plans for the future. I am very pleased at our results for 2004 and the continued growth of our organization. But there is still much that must be done to assure our members that they will have the education and skills needed for the future. Our profession continues to change on a daily basis with new responsibilities being added to the Chief Engineer’s workload. Not too long ago, Chief Engineers were taking tasks in-house in order to save money for our facilities. Today, we see Chief Engineers out-sourcing some of these same tasks for essentially the same reason. With the introduction of more equipment into buildings and the added responsibilities of maintaining a growing technological infrastructure, we have come to the point where it is often cost effective to outsource some maintenance tasks. As the profession changes, we as an association must also change in order to keep our membership equipped with the knowledge and skill to accept these changes.

This month, our good friends at Airways Systems will be co-sponsoring our monthly educational meeting and I hope you will all turn out to attend what will be a very informative and enjoyable evening.

Please keep in mind that everything we have done and all that we plan to do has and is made possible through the support of our advertisers and associate members. Whenever you need a supplier or contractor for help within your facility, make certain to choose one from the Quick Shopper or from inside the magazine. It is important that we show support to the great people who have supported us and who continue to support our association. And as always, remember to tell them you found them in the Chief Engineer.
