Office Buildings of the Year Regional Winners Named

Four premier suburban properties were named 2002-2003 North Central Region Office Buildings of the Year by BOMA International.

1111 West 22nd Street in Oak Brook was selected in the 100,000-249,999 square feet category. One Lincoln Centre in Oakbrook Terrace was selected in the 250,000-499,999 square feet category. Oakbrook Terrace Tower in Oakbrook Terrace was selected in the 500,000 to One Million square feet category. Tri-State International Office Center in Lincolnshire was selected in the Suburban Office Park (Low-rise) category. Also named were three properties in Chicago: 161 N. Clark Street, the Daley Center, and the Sante Fe Building.

The Office Building of the Year (TOBY) Award, created by BOMA International and now in its 18th year, is the most prestigious and comprehensive award of its kind in the commercial real estate industry. While buildings are most identifiable by their exterior envelopes, physical attractiveness plays only a small part in their selection as winners. Because the TOBY truly is a management award, efficient, quality management is the deciding factor that separates a TOBY building from others. Quality management is defined by such practices as tenant and employee relations, community impact, and building operations.

From here, winning regional properties will represent the North Central Region at the International competition, with winners to be announced at the BOMA International Convention in San Francisco on July 1.

Founded in 1907, the Building Owners and Managers Association (BOMA) International is a dynamic international federation of more than 100 local associations. BOMA International's 18,500-plus members own or manage more than nine billion square feet of downtown and suburban commercial properties and facilities in North America and abroad. The mission of BOMA International is to advance the performance of the commercial real estate industry through advocacy, professional competency, standards and research.
